"Here, the elements come to life, and the human
being becomes part of this harmony"
(Bertrand Piccard)
They were struck by the contrast between the beauty of the world they admired and the horrors that continued to be perpetrated below.

Why did they have the chance to fulfil the dream of their lives while so many never got the chance to survive the warfare, famine and brutalities that are the daily lot of so many people?

Being driven right around the world by the forces of nature, made them feel they were taking the world in their arms, and that they could nevermore be indifferent to its fate.

If their flight around the world can be considered the last great adventure of the 20th century, it can also be regarded as the first adventure of the 21st - the search for a new partnership between mankind, technology and nature.
