| Bertrand has not
only inherited the interests of his father's family. His
career has also been influenced by his mother, Marie-Claude,
the daughter of a clergyman. He shared her deep interest
in philosophy and spirituality.
Bertrand's interest in the inner life
led him to become a doctor and to pursue a double
specialisation in psychiatry and psychotherapy for children
and adults. His thesis, 'Ordeal : A Learning Experience'
won an award at the University of Lausanne medical faculty.
Bertrand trained in the techniques of hypnosis in Europe
and the United States, then became lecturer and supervisor
at the Swiss Society for Medical Hypnosis. He was
appointed honorary member of the Swiss Society of Clinical
Hypnosis.
